I regret not reading the reviews more carefully, because I agree with most of the negative comments. This hotel is incredibly overpriced. For what I paid, I could have had a luxury holiday elsewhere, even in major European cities or popular destinations. This was nothing like that. The staff were the strongest point: attentive, kind and friendly. The evening bar attendant always had a smile, and the reception and breakfast area staff were lovely too. Our room was spacious and had a nice view, and the hotel is very dog friendly. The lounge felt warm and homey, with lots of sofas for cards or drinks in the evening. There’s also convenient, spacious free parking out front. The lake view was nice, although the lake can be gloomy and cloudy. Ossiacher See is crowded with buildings along the shore, with barely anywhere to walk or enjoy the water. Nearly every inch seems to be privatized, so I guess lake access at a hotel is rare. For families, there are children everywhere at all hours, including in the SPA. They’re often screaming, which made it impossible to relax. I wouldn’t choose this for a couple’s or romantic stay if you don’t have kids or aren’t used to family places. The Wi-Fi was incredibly slow and didn’t work well enough for work or streaming. That seems crazy in 2026. Kitchen fumes stank up the whole area all morning. There was no lunch or dinner, so we had to find food around the lake, where options were mostly bad and had convoluted hours, odd opening times and random days off. Breakfast was also a letdown for the price. Vegan options were close to none beyond fruit, bread and coffee, so I bought soy yogurt at the supermarket and brought it every morning. That might be fine in an average hotel, but it’s poor service for a four-star place charging 300/400 Eur a night. The hotel feels like a 90s building that’s never been renovated, with nothing luxurious or modern. Our room had a tiny shower, basic products, and a giant crack in the bathroom mirror starting from the light. There was no kettle, coffee, or glasses apart from bathroom tumblers, and no room service. Reception closes after 6 pm. Don’t expect a four-star experience, and think carefully about the room price you agree to pay.
