Waldhof

My family felt like we were in paradise, and we’ll definitely return to Waldhof. It’s a peaceful, beautiful spot and a great base for all kinds of hikes. The rooms were very clean, breakfast was delicious, and the host was so friendly and kind. My children loved the private playground. For safety, the barn can only be visited with the owner during milking time, so the animals can rest and small children don’t get hurt. We arranged a time and were able to watch and help with everything: milking cows, getting fresh warm milk, and seeing goats, ponies, calves, rabbits, chickens, and horses. Horseback riding was available for an extra charge, which we also tried. The setting was wonderful, and we hope to be back. Hooray!

The village of Niederthai is beautiful and quiet, and a great place to start hikes. We stayed for a week in August as a family with children aged 2 and 5. The Bergblick (Mountain View) apartment was spacious, with two bedrooms, each with its own small bathroom, and a balcony facing the mountains. We were disappointed, though, because this didn’t feel like a farm holiday at all, despite the description on urlaubambauernhof.at that led us to book Waldhof. Horseback riding, ponies and goats, a playground, play equipment, tractor rides, farm activities, and farm-fresh products were advertised, but practically none of that was available. The playground hadn’t been set up, and there were just two old ride-on toys. We couldn’t access the farmyard. The pony and goats stayed in the barn all day, and we were discouraged from visiting or feeding them. Riding or petting the pony wasn’t possible because it reacted aggressively. We also couldn’t find any farm-fresh products. The host sent us to other farms for play and riding, so we spent our holiday at their playgrounds and paddocks instead. We were out morning and afternoon because there was nothing for our young children to do at Waldhof. If we’d known, we wouldn’t have booked. We wanted to leave early, but the host refused. He showed little understanding of why we were disappointed, was unfriendly and quick-tempered, and told us that since we had booked, we had to pay the full amount. He clearly didn’t care whether we or our children were satisfied.

A charming, cozy place with very friendly hosts and amazing value for money. The mountain views from the bed are stunning, and the location is fantastic. The mattresses were a little firm, which was the only small drawback. Highly recommended!

We weren’t satisfied with our winter farm holiday, as it wasn’t what we had pictured. During our four days there, we didn’t see any animals apart from our dog. The holiday apartment itself was very nice and tidy, and the location was excellent.
