Hotel Austria

We had a very good stay and would happily come back and recommend the place. The location was convenient, the atmosphere pleasant, and the staff friendly and helpful. With four of us, though, the room felt a bit cramped because it was on the small side. Apart from that, everything was excellent.

Breakfast being included was a real plus, with hot choices like eggs, sausage, and vegetables alongside bread, rolls, jam, butter, cheeses, meats, and fruit that was good for the middle of winter. The minibar was reasonably priced and topped up every day. Our clean room had a lovely vintage feel, and the hotel itself is cute and quaint, with a retro style right in the heart of Innenstadt (downtown) Vienna. The front desk staff were always friendly and helpful, and it was quick and easy to leave and collect the traditional large key when we came and went. I’d highly recommend it for a distinctive stay at a reasonable price in downtown Vienna.

The breakfast was very nice, with a decent range of dishes, served in a quiet, classic setting. Although Hotel Austria cost more than the place I considered farther from the center, the extra expense for our two nights was completely worth it. The hotel was exceptionally clean and pleasant, and surprisingly quiet despite the busy neighborhood. A short walk puts Vienna’s medieval history, shopping, dining, and entertainment within easy reach.

The calm here is remarkable for a hotel in Vienna’s old town. It sits at the end of a short, well-lit alley, an easy 10-minute walk from the bustle and noise around St Stephan's Cathedral and the Schwedenplatz stop for trams, subways, and buses. That peacefulness, along with the quiet service, added a lot to the joy of our week in Vienna. We also found that everyone at the hotel spoke English, as did the museums, concerts, and restaurants we visited. My wife and I are nearing the end of our weeklong stay and enthusiastically recommend it. Our comfort room suited us well, with a modern bathroom spacious enough for both of us to use at once, a handy shower, and plenty of hot water. The property is meticulously kept, and housekeeping was attentive without intruding. Front desk and breakfast service were just as unobtrusive. Breakfast was generous: well-cooked scrambled eggs, sausage, lovely breads, jams (I can only vouch for the sour cherry), rich but simple yogurt, plenty of coffee, whole milk, fruit, and more.
