Pension Mozart - Vienna Center, Self Check-in

The room was very clean, and I liked it, though I hadn't expected the view to be that way. The building felt secure, with a simple code for the main entrance and upper floors. There was an Irish Pub by the entrance. We were right by the main shopping street, with lots of places to eat and drink, and within walking distance of the main attractions. The metro was very close too. I wouldn't recommend eating around the cathedral area. At checkout, we could leave our luggage in a corridor spot, and picked it up later in the evening without any problem.

What upset me was the way the apartment owner or manager responded when I mentioned that chocolates had gone missing. We'd bought a box as a gift during our trip to Vienna, and I noticed pieces were missing on checkout morning. The reply was that without “any specific proof,” they had no objective way to confirm whether the box had been there, whether it was sealed, or how many pieces it had contained. That made it sound as if I was lying. What proof could I possibly bring, a camera pointed at the chocolates? It's not about what the chocolates cost. It's about not feeling that your personal belongings are safe in the apartment.

The price and location are well balanced, and I really appreciated how they handled my situation. My mom needed to take a pill and sleep around the middle of the day, but our room wouldn't be ready until 3PM. I hadn't been able to stay in their room because of her medical situation. They talked me through the cancellation process and offered us another room, though we decided against it because it was closer to our parking garage. They could have just told me I'd booked at the last minute, paid, and made a mistake, but they did the opposite. I loved their customer service. They're top of my list for next time I'm back.

We heard other guests through the thin walls, so please be considerate in the common area and try not to slam doors late at night. We didn't hear the Irish pub next door. The room faced scaffolding and other windows, so we had to keep the blackout curtains closed the whole time. Sheer curtains would have let in some light while keeping privacy. The drink machine in the common area also switched off at night, which seemed odd. Jet-lagged guests awake at 3am might appreciate a cold drink. The rooms were clean, check-in was easy, and it was reasonably priced compared with other places. The location was great, walkable to lots of tourist spots while still tucked away from busy streets.
