Luckily, another nearby hotel had a room. I’m hoping American Express or Booking.com can sort out the refund, since the hotel wasn’t willing to handle this professionally. I never actually stayed at this hotel. I’d booked eight rooms, then saw the bed bug reviews. I should have chosen a booking with free cancellation. When I contacted the hotel, they said the Google reviews were from people who hadn’t used their services and that the bed bug issue was being handled. That didn’t add up to me: the latest review was only a week old, and the dates suggested the issue had gone on for months. The hotel called previous customers liars, then said I was lying too, claiming I simply didn’t want to use the rooms and wanted a refund for its own sake. They had a chance to resolve things, but chose to accuse me instead.

The old building was part of the appeal for me, and the room was clean and perfectly fine. If you want a new design or high-tech rooms, this isn’t the place, though nearby hotels with that style cost two or three times more. I like staying in older buildings because they give you a sense of the city’s history. Breakfast was average, nothing special, but decent. At these prices, I was glad it was included. The location and rates are the big draw: we could walk to most of the best places in the city, and for that combination I’d give it 10/10. The staff seemed a bit too serious for my Mediterranean taste, since I like people who smile and chat, but they were polite, professional, and kind, and answered our questions. One morning an employee loudly dragged what looked like a metal trolley with towels or sheets outside my door. I said it wasn’t acceptable. She apologized, then continued for at least 15 minutes. That was the only real negative for me. I was very pleased with the hotel and would book it again whenever I’m back in Vienna. It’s a bargain at this price, as long as you aren’t expecting the Ritz Carlton. I’m so glad I stayed there on my first visit to Vienna.

I stayed here last December. The building was old, but that didn’t bother me. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, and the location was especially great.

It felt like a comfortable stay for a reasonable price right in central Vienna. The hotel has an authentic atmosphere, the breakfast was nice, and there was AC in the room. The bathroom has matte doors within the room, and the windows don’t offer much of a view.
