Pension Schottentor

We only stayed a night, and the place did what we needed. The room was clean and comfortable, warm enough, and well lit. The main appeal is the very central location, close to the university, a beautiful church, and a large metro and bus station. Service was almost nonexistent. Nobody was there when we arrived to check in, and we weren’t sure if we should take our keys. Leaving keys out on the front desk also didn’t feel very safe, since anyone could enter and get to the rooms. The shower was awkward too, with a high step that could be risky for older people or anyone with mobility issues, and the shower head wouldn’t stay in place properly.

The rooms are clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s one of the cheapest places to sleep in Vienna with such a good location. Just don’t expect a five-star standard.

We had two large triple rooms, each with an adequate bathroom, and being able to open the windows fully helped on hot nights. The hotel is very close to a main tram and U-bahn stop. Cleaning happens early in the morning, and check-in is possible after 11am. There was no bin in the room, so we used bags instead. Front-facing rooms can be noisy with the windows open overnight. It’s an old building, and some floor levels aren’t even. They’re marked, but watch your step. The room numbering also makes little sense: from our first-floor door we had rooms 37, 38, 39, and 43, while on the fourth floor there seemed to be rooms 26 and 27. We didn’t book breakfast, so can’t comment on it.

I stayed four nights at pension schottentor and went two days without seeing any staff. They didn’t answer my messages or calls. There was no breakfast in the building, no shower in the bathroom as the pictures showed, and no hair dryer or mini-fridge in the room.
