Retro Vienna

There’s a lovely little conservatory looking out onto greenery, and two nice parks are close enough for walks. The children especially enjoyed the playgrounds. Getting into the city center by tram is easy, too. The apartment is beautiful and very spacious, with lots of antique furniture. Even the kitchen keeps its 1950s charm while having everything you need, and the TV and Wi-Fi box are new.

We were really pleased with how close the apartment is to the city center. In Vienna’s Gersthof district, it was a lovely find, and we felt at home among the furnishings and their distinctive charm. We’re looking forward to another Vienna trip and hope we can stay here again.

We return to Vienna often and nearly always choose this quiet, clean apartment. It feels like our second home, with its lovely retro furniture and decor giving it a special atmosphere. The kitchen has what you need, the beds are comfortable, and the Wi-Fi works well. Check-in and getting the keys were easy. From the balcony, you can see the pleasant green gardens nearby. The dining table works for two, though it’s probably a little small for a family with children.

We left the next day after a deeply disappointing experience. We’ve stayed in “Retro” apartments before and found them clean and well kept, but this one had belongings and medication left in cupboards, cobwebs on the ceilings and walls, dust, and musty-smelling cupboards. The living room carpet was a tripping risk for children. It felt as though the deceased grandparents had just been taken out and guests moved straight in. When we raised this with the agent, the response was completely unacceptable. The whole thing felt close to deliberate deception, and I hope nobody else rents this place. It’s a shame for Vienna, since we had hoped to spend a few days there. The arrival was a disaster, too. During the initial conversation at the house, the guide kept his sunglasses on and came across as arrogant. We felt completely out of place. As non-Austrians, we didn’t know some of the laws and rules, but everything was explained so quickly that we couldn’t follow properly. An older woman ended up having to explain the parking situation. The rental agency could at least have provided the parking tickets. We’d been looking forward to this vacation and were let down.
