Stadtaffe - Chic Hostel VIE

The hygiene and safety were basic concerns here, and both fell short. The toilet was covered in urine, my towel cost €3 and came dirty and stained, and using a locker cost another €2. There was nowhere to hang clothes or put belongings. My bed had half a pillow, and the bunk ladder sat awkwardly off to the side, so getting in and out felt unsafe. Around 10pm I emailed the hostel about this and said I had also contacted Hostelworld. When I calmly went to reception the next morning, the staff member got aggressive straight away, called me “aggressive” and said I was being removed without a refund. During the confrontation he swore in German, apparently thinking I wouldn't understand, and referred to “stupid foreign English people.” I found that discriminatory and extremely distressing. I was evicted with no refund, and I have photos of the conditions.

When our flight was canceled because of the weather, we couldn't make our non-refundable booking. The staff were quick to respond when I explained what had happened, and they kindly offered to move our stay to another weekend. Johanna and Lisa were especially compassionate and helpful, and their warmth and professionalism made a stressful situation much easier. If I had time to get to Vienna, I'd absolutely stay here. Thank you again for being so understanding.

I wish I'd booked more time at Stadtaffe. The free luggage storage made my itinerary much less stressful, and the spacious dorms gave me room to relax after busy travel days. Everything felt clean and well looked after. It has a calm, welcoming atmosphere, with space to recharge and the option to meet people too. The place felt thoughtfully arranged for travelers who want both rest and convenience. It was one of the most memorable hostels of my trip, and I'd happily stay again.

The rooms are huge and each has its own bathroom, with the shower separate from the toilet. Both were really clean. You're right by a big supermarket and very close to the city centre. The staff are friendly too, especially Adam. His game nights are great. Definitely recommend staying here!
