Globo Plaza Hotel Villach

Our room was pleasant, but the carpet and some of the furniture seemed worn and old. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the train station. On checkout day, housekeeping came to our room three times despite the do not disturb sign, which got irritating.

Breakfast was fine, though we thought there might be more choice. The room itself was okay, but housekeeping came at inconvenient times and missed things. We even found items under the bed that seemed to have been left there for ages. The biggest issue was reception. We had to plan visits around the afternoon, when the only Italian speaker was working. The other receptionists struggled to speak English clearly, so they were hard to understand. Once, we asked about getting tickets for kärnten therme with the 10% discount, and the receptionist told us to come back the next day because they didn't know how to arrange it. We'd been there four days earlier, and the Italian-speaking receptionist had handled it without a problem. The underground parking cost 8 euros per night and was awful to get in and out of. Overall, it wasn't a great stay and didn't feel worth the price.

It's an average place, nothing special. At least there was soap in the bathroom. The room information said we could ask room service for toiletries like toothpaste and a toothbrush, since those weren't supplied. I called several times and nobody answered. When I went to reception, the man there said I should buy them from the machine by the entrance.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from the Old City Center, and breakfast was okay, though the dining room was plain and not especially elegant. My room got very hot at night from the 19th to the 23rd of June, since there was no air conditioning. I left the window open, but a nearby ventilation noise was annoying. There were two beds, which I pushed together. It wasn't as comfortable as I'd hoped because the mattresses had no covers and kept sliding. Putting blankets underneath each mattress helped. The bathroom was large and clean, and hot water came in under five seconds, but the bathtub drain stopper was broken and hard to remove. The safe was broken too. Wi-Fi speed was 72MBps, but I had to enter the username and password each time I reconnected, which I disliked. The minibar seemed locked or broken, and there were only two empty glasses in a cupboard. Unlike some other 4-star hotels in Villach, there was no water, tea, or fruit.
