Zum Schiffmeister

The new owners have recently taken over and moved here from somewhere else, and they’re trying a different direction from standard pub food. I came for dinner, not to stay overnight. The cooking was excellent and very much haute cuisine, with some experimental ideas. The chef’s complimentary gazpacho was a nice touch, and the service was super friendly. I only wished the portions were a little larger. Still, this was one of the best places I ate in Austria, five stars.

Being right on the Danube with those lovely views of the river, hillsides, and castles makes you want to linger. The hearty, tasty food and original recipes go especially well with the selection of Austrian beers. Since the new host took over, the food has been spectacular, surpassing every expectation. The lovely couple running the kitchen and dining room make you feel like the most important guest. For great food, service, and a fabulous riverside location, this place is even better than you’d hope. An honest 12/10.

There aren’t many other options around here, but the food was good and the service was nice when we had dinner.

Cold and hungry late in the afternoon while cycling along the Danube, we asked at the camping ground for somewhere to eat. They called this place right away, and the restaurant was ready for us. The waitress was so kind, even sitting with us to explain the menu and recommend typical Austrian dishes since we don’t speak German. Great food, a nice atmosphere, and lovely staff made this a highlight of our trip.
