Sporthotel Steffisalp

Helene, the restaurant manager, really stood out. She talked us through the food with a great sense of humor, spoke six languages beautifully, and joked with all 28 people at our table. She's the closest I've ever come across to perfect hospitality, and I'd recommend experiencing her service at least once. The hotel itself was a wonderful stay, with impeccable service and a perfect location. The ski lift starts right there, and there's a large underground garage, spa, fitness area, and smiles everywhere.

Liviu, the bartender, is the one person who keeps the hotel's standards up. He's truly amazing. The location, room and wellness area were fine, but the food was bad and nowhere near four-star quality. Meals weren't fresh or warm, and the rice and pasta were very dry. There was no salad bar as promised, and both the morning buffet and cheese selection could be much better. The restaurant bar is closed during the day, and there are no loungers on the terrace for enjoying summer weather. The place also lacks a cozy feel, with no flowers anywhere. Sad to see.

The food and coffee were excellent, and the place felt cozy, with seating both indoors and out. We stopped for lunch because it was conveniently beside the Steffisalpe lift. The service let it down. Neither waiter paid much attention to us and they seemed almost indifferent. They weren't outright rude, but the service was far below what we've had at many other places in Lech. Otherwise, this would have been four stars.

The food was excellent in both taste and presentation, and the renovated rooms were very nice. Even with the staff shortage in the market, the hotel had enough people working. Not everyone spoke German fluently, but they were all helpful and friendly. We'd gladly return.
