Appartement Hotel Seeland

Nothing but praise.

The apartment was roomy and well equipped, with basic spices and oil provided. It had a lovely lake view, plus direct lake access and a boat dock. Everything else was perfect. It wasn’t as peaceful as described, though. The bridge is nearby, and traffic is especially disruptive on Sundays and public holidays. You should also be comfortable around dogs, since there were dogs in almost every apartment, and they were also at the lake and dock.

Even on hot days, our apartment stayed pleasantly cool. It was spacious and nicely furnished, with south- and west-facing balconies. The modern sofa was comfortable, and the mattresses were very good. The bathroom has a shower and bathtub combination, likely for structural reasons. The building is right by the lake near the bridge, but despite its central position it’s quiet, even at night. There’s a large lawn with lake access and a shed with electrical outlets for bikes. Mr. Seeland provided a “PremiumCard” that let us use the cable car, boat lines and bus multiple times for free. We’d recommend the building.

The lakeside path at Weissensee used to make for a peaceful, car-free walk along the short stretch of shore, linking many places to stay and eat with the center of Techendorf. It’s one of the things that makes this idyllic lake such a special holiday spot. Now the last section of the promenade is closed and marked “private property” by a small hotel near its end. I’m not questioning whether that claim is legal, but the decision is inconsiderate and has a wide effect. To get around the closed stretch, you have to take an awkward detour up the road, sharing a narrow route with cars and people carrying shopping from supermarkets and sporting goods stores. The quiet, car-free lakeside walk is gone from that part. Even if this doesn’t influence where you choose to stay, be aware that many holidaymakers are angry and resentful, and guests at Hotel Seeland will probably feel some of that.
