Almhüttendorf Klippitztörl

A great spot for a family holiday, whether in summer or winter.

The cabin was inexpensive and otherwise okay, but I'd keep expectations modest. We were six children and five adults in cabin seven for a week. It's an old wooden place and very noisy, as expected, but it also felt neglected and poorly maintained. There were cigarette butts on the balcony and beer bottle caps in the bed when we arrived. You can rent one towel for €5. The biggest problem was the electric storage heater. It apparently wasn't working yet, even though it was the season. We arrived at midday and were repeatedly told on the first day that it would take a while but would warm up. It finally got warm at midnight. By then we were worried we might have to leave, and the electricity was still charged on the final bill.

We were right by the ski slope, and the free firewood for the wood-burning stove made for a lovely atmosphere. The kitchen had a stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, and coffee maker. It was comfortable and well furnished, though the soundproofing wasn't great: we could clearly hear our own grandchildren upstairs from the ground floor. Highly recommended.

The rustic decor fits the cabin, and it made for a nice vacation. Our cabin was listed for 12 people, which seems optimistic, though not impossible. It gets cramped, and one proper bathroom felt insufficient for that many guests. For a larger family, the size could work well. The cabins are older, and some furnishings could use replacing. It's also very noisy, so everyone needs to be ready for that if you want to sleep peacefully.
