Hotel Berner Zell am See

We’ve just come back from our second holiday here, and the staff were amazing from the moment we arrived. The hotel has traditional Austrian furniture, and Christoph, the owner, clearly cares about its standards, service and making guests happy. The team were always available and glad to help. Our rooms were finished to a high standard and had spectacular lake and mountain views. The breakfast buffet had an incredible choice, and dinner was a special experience, with a daily menu selection and beautifully presented, high quality food from a talented chef and team. There was also a good choice of local wines. The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre, bus station and City Express cable car. Its terraces and other seating areas have panoramic lake and mountain views. A great example of hospitality and service.

We had an amazing week in a beautiful setting. Christoph and the staff treated us kindly throughout, and were attentive, efficient and happy to help with anything. The food was fantastic, with six courses each evening and a breakfast buffet that we think would satisfy anyone. Huge thanks to Christoph and his wonderful team for making the week so memorable. We stayed for seven days in July 2025, my wife, our two teenage girls and me. The hotel was spotless, the food lovely, the service ran smoothly, and the staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly. Being part of the summer card scheme made a massive difference to our time in the Salzburg region. The location was just right, peaceful but still very convenient for Zell am See centre. The staff create such a relaxed, congenial atmosphere that carries over to the guests. We’d worried about no air con, but even on the warmest days, at 28°C, our mountainside room was fine at night. I can’t recommend Hotel Berner highly enough.

We arrived in the first week of June and were welcomed by such friendly staff. They brought us a complimentary drink while our bags went up, checked us in while we were seated, and personally showed us to our spacious, spotless room with a lovely lake view. The bed was very comfortable, and housekeeping did a great job every day. Breakfast had loads of choice, plus fresh eggs cooked how you wanted. We had our own named table for the whole week, a nice bonus. Each morning there was a card with the evening meal choices, weather and tips for exploring. Dinner was six courses every night, and every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. It felt like dining at a Michelin Star restaurant. The staff were kind and attentive, and the manager often checked how we were and whether we’d enjoyed dinner. You can tell this family run hotel is cared for with love by management and staff. It’s right in-front of the Lake and only a few minutes from town. Mountains and the winter skiing resort are behind it, with cable cars open through summer for walks and beautiful scenery. The gardens and hotel are clean and tidy, and there’s a heated pool, sunbathing area and steam room. The bus and train station are a few minutes away. We’ve travelled a lot, and this was one of our best holidays. We’re booking for next year and can’t wait to return.
