Fish'Inn Zell - Hotel Fischerwirt

A good place to stay for skiing, with a boot room for your gear. Next time, though, I'll rent equipment somewhere nearer the lifts where you can leave it after skiing. Carrying all the ski stuff back to the hotel is a bit of a chore.

Breakfast at Romantic was excellent, 5/5. The linens at Fish Inn were fresh and crisp, and the balcony and view were great. The shower and bed weren't mentioned, but the room felt cheap for the price, especially the online check-in. It was marketed as a family-run traditional hotel, and we wanted a person there, but Fish Inn is fully online and we didn't meet any of the staff. We also got nine emails between booking and checkout, far too many holiday updates. The lift broke on the second morning and wasn't repaired. I'd booked because the rooms were advertised as elevator accessible, but the Romantic Hotel also has no step-free access from the Fish Inn, despite the website stressing accessibility. The room was boiling, even with the radiator off and the door open at one degree outside. I asked for split beds while sharing with my mother, and the setup shown as the split had a bare bulb. The tea station was just a few tatty teabags in a jar. Reception said coffee wasn't something they did, and there was no milk. I got some from the bar, but with no fridge and a warm room, it went off. Fish Inn was disappointing, and I wouldn't stay again.

The hotel itself was nice, and we were happy with our room during our two nights in Zell am See. My main gripe was all the trips to the nearby RomantikHotel, which has the same owner. Fischerwirt had no full-time staff, so check-in was by machine in the lobby and you had to go to the RomantikHotel to speak to someone. The indoor walkway between them was under construction, meaning several walks outside to the other reception. That's not a huge issue, but I expect more convenience from a 4-star hotel. The room had air conditioning, but getting the remote meant paying €10 at a lobby vending machine. You got the money back when you returned it at checkout, but it was an extra hassle. Parking was also at the Romantik and cost €11 per day. We were happy enough with the stay, but the back-and-forth to another hotel got annoying.

The location right in the centre was handy, though it can get noisy at night, which isn't the hotel's fault. Rooms were lovely and clean, the food was excellent, and they did a very good job with special dietary requirements.
