This is an old heritage hotel, so yes, the rooms are dated and could use upgrades and better cleaning. I had no smell in my room, the air-conditioning was great, it was generally quiet, and the bed was good. I needed somewhere comfortable, and this suited me well. There are many eateries nearby. The Paringa's staff and location are what make it five star for me, especially the lady from Mackay, whose service, professionalism, and demeanour were amazing. It's not a five-star hotel or the Ritz, but it doesn't charge a premium price, which makes sense for such an old place. Thanks for a comfortable stay.

Room 407 had what I needed: somewhere safe, clean, and easy to get to for the night. Nothing fancy, but it did the job. The toilet was missing its button cap, though that wasn't a big deal. I'd recommend it if you're on a budget and only need the basics. The lovely woman working Tuesday around 3pm was amazing, thank you so, so much for helping me. The keys are pretty cool too, they open the automatic door after, I think, 6pm, when the desk isn't staffed. Good to know random people can't just wander in at night.

The hotel was a great stay, with spacious rooms and a spot close to the city. We lost our AirPods, but Vanessa at reception was lovely and helped us get them back. Definitely recommend.

I don't recommend staying here. The rooms were old, damaged, and badly cleaned, with a strange smell. Paint was peeling off the walls, the shower was absolutely disgusting, and the old bed was very uncomfortable. The walls were so thin that I could hear everything in the next room and outside.

The management shut the door at 10:00 PM without giving a clear explanation. Later, I was unexpectedly asked over the phone for my credit card details to cover a 250 AUD deposit, which is unreasonably high. That felt unsafe and very unprofessional, with no consideration for guest trust or satisfaction. The whole experience reflects very poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who cares about transparency and proper hospitality.
