Frome Apartments

The bedrooms were clean and the linen was good, but the beds were uncomfortable. There was very little room around them, and the bedrooms themselves were tiny. The two-room apartment's main living area was also small, though clean, and the furniture was fine. The TV seemed ancient. In the kitchen, the power sockets had ingrained dirt, the cabinetry was very worn, and the room was dirty. The bathroom looked straight out of the 1980s, with peach fittings and a scruffy finish. Towels were small, crunchy and looked old. Arriving at 7pm meant collecting the keys from another block, the Miller apartments. There was nowhere to park there, and being on Hindley Street, one of the busiest streets in the CBD, made stopping to pick them up a real nuisance. The nearest car park is a ten-minute walk, which could be difficult with kids and luggage. They're cheap for a reason. Basic may suit you, but don't expect the standard of more expensive apartments. This place is long overdue for an update.

The only real hassle was sorting out parking. The car park is across the road, and you need a card to cover the fee. I was told at check-in to ask for the rebate on the morning we left, but the office was closed then. I called the help desk and got no response after being on the phone for three minutes, so the charge stayed on, especially annoying with the car parked there for 24 hours in the capital. Our two-bedroom apartment was very clean, with three balconies and a fairly roomy kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, microwave and stove. The lounge was comfortable, and the TV and Wi-Fi were there. The shower and toilet were clean, with hot water. We did need more towels for three people.

We had a disappointing stay. The location was a plus, only a six-minute walk to Rundel street for food and shops, and our car felt safe in the parking across from the police station. Adelaide itself was beautiful and clean, and people were friendly. Inside, the bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the apartment needed a proper scrub. The bathroom was passable but dated, the shower pressure was weak, and the tiny third-floor balcony could barely fit one person, with no room for a chair. It was so close to the neighbours' room that we could hear every conversation. The lift doors were slow and got stuck, and the toilet paper felt like sandpaper, so I bought my own. The building still said "Ritz 88" instead of "Frome 88" as shown in the photos, which confused our Uber driver.

The receptionist was quite rude, and I felt unwelcome enough to leave the room earlier than planned. The carpet and furniture also looked worn, and the rooms need renovation. I wouldn't stay here again. Staff could use training in being courteous and friendly with guests.
