Nightcap at Watermark Glenelg

The room’s lighting and decor were pleasant, maybe nicer than at some three-star motels, and there are plenty of cafes within a ten-minute walk. We arrived quite late, but check-in was friendly and straightforward. The bed was comfortable enough, and the room had Wi-Fi, two complimentary bottles of water in the fridge, and room service from the hotel/pub until 9 pm. The floor and basin with hair in it made the room and bathroom feel less than clean. There was also a slight smell from the kitchen sink when we came in, so the drains need cleaning. It’s fine for a quick stop, but not the best motel around. It’s a shame they don’t offer buffet breakfast.

We had lots of room to move around in the three-bedroom unit, and the beds were heavenly. The bathroom was laid out well, and having a bath was a bonus. I stayed with my elderly mum and adult son, and being on the ground floor worked well. Check-in was easy, and the staff were amazing when we arrived in wet weather. The rooms were well arranged, and the breakfast packs saved us money since we usually bring cereal with us. The only disappointment was Tuesday’s buffet meal. We’ve eaten here several times, but this time most of the hot food was barely warm, even though there was a good choice when we arrived just after 11:45 am. The desserts were poor too, including Banoffee pie with very dark, almost black banana slices. The accommodation was very good overall, and we’ll definitely return.

The five of us stayed in room 16. It was very clean, with enough bottles of water and milk, and the shower had plenty of pressure. The bed was comfortable, but I barely slept because the pull-down blind wasn’t wide enough to block the light. There must have been a streetlight outside the main bedroom window, and it shone straight into my eyes as I lay on the pillow.

There was a great range of food at the all-you-can-eat buffet, but we found a lot of human and dog hair throughout it. The kitchen workers weren’t wearing hairnets, and hygiene didn’t seem to be maintained. Skip it.
