Sunnymead Hotel

After a day on the road, having Santara Restaurant on site was a real bonus. We booked Sunnymead Hotel online because we wanted a reasonably priced, convenient place for the night. It’s an older motel style building that’s been refurbished, simple but perfectly acceptable. Our room was clean and comfortable, and everything worked. We needed to check out early, which was no problem.

The reception staff were nice, but the cleanliness, service and attention to detail were well below what I’d expect from a four star hotel. Our room wasn’t ready at check in even though we’d confirmed our arrival. When we finally got in, the floors were still wet, and the mattress protector had visible stains and hadn’t been changed. The coffee machine leaked, the WiFi kept cutting out, and there were ants in the room. The so called daily servicing was mostly just making the bed. Plates and cutlery were provided, but there was no sink or microwave, which made little sense. It was marketed as a four star stay and priced that way, but the experience fell far short. Overpriced and disappointing.

It was quiet at night, and the calming decor and fitout made the room a pleasant place to return to. I stayed for one night recently and was very impressed with Sunnymead Hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful, the room was spotlessly clean, and the hot water had good pressure. The mattress was good quality, which matters to someone with lower back grumbles. The on site restaurant was a bonus. I was there in winter, so didn’t get to enjoy the outdoor pool and spa, but they looked like a treat for summer. Highly recommend considering this hotel.

The quiet setting still made it easy to take a nice walk to the coastal path, enjoy the views, and reach local restaurants and shops. We spent New Years at Sunnymead and found the rooms calming and nicely decorated, with a very comfy bed, useful amenities and a hot shower with good pressure. Reception and housekeeping staff were both very helpful and kept the room nice during our stay. The pool and rooms gave the place a pleasant atmosphere. There’s also a spa and restaurant on site, a nice extra, though we didn’t use them this time. We’d consider coming back and trying them next visit.
