The beach views from the kitchen and balconies were amazing, and the air con was so strong I woke up in the night feeling like I was in the Arctic. You can control it in your own room, though. Staff were helpful and gave us a good idea of what Airlie has to offer. The place has a maze-like layout, with lots of corners and stairs to get to your room, and felt cool but a little empty. We didn’t meet many other guests. It’s a 15-20 minute walk from the Greyhound drop off, and at first glance the building looks a bit like a partly deserted shopping centre. There’s cheap, secure storage if you’re heading on a Whitsundays tour, plus a huge, inexpensive laundrette on the ground floor. I’d recommend this hostel.

Robin was especially helpful, letting me use his cell phone, helping me get around, and making sure I had a nice room the night before I left. The people running the hostel were all very helpful. It’s right across from the ocean and near grocery shops, clothing stores, and everything else. The rooms were clean, and after talking to people who stayed at other hotels and hostels in Airlie Beach, I think this is the best one.

After an incident that was completely out of our control, the staff were incredibly rude. We were given THREE minutes to pack or she said she’d call the police. When my friend asked for more time, we were told, “you need to go while you can still walk,” which felt threatening. We weren’t refunded for the part of the stay we didn’t complete. We came back for belongings we’d had no time to pack, only to find our things had been thrown out. Absolutely disgusting treatment, and I’d never recommend this dump. They advertise “secure parking,” but the underground area smells like a sewer and anyone can walk in at any time. It definitely doesn’t feel secure.

The place is okay if you’re really short on cash, but very basic. There was rubbish on our bed that wasn’t ours, and no clean cups or spoons. No power points in the bedroom either. There were two in the bathroom, about a metre off the floor, so the sink was the only place to charge a phone or iPad.

The location was good and the staff were helpful. The room was basic, but did the job. I missed the small print about there being only stairs, so hauling my heavy dive gear around was hard.
