A really well-maintained course, with plenty of grass on the fairways and greens that rolled very truly. Mount Lofty golf course is in a beautiful, picturesque hills setting, and the undulating layout gives you a good walk or a reason to hire a cart. It makes a great summer round, as it’s usually a few degrees cooler when it’s extremely hot elsewhere.
It’s a very picturesque area and a great location, but at $155 for 2 players and a cart, I found it quite expensive given the course’s condition. I know it has only recently reopened. In my opinion, whoever owns it now should put a good amount of money into bringing it back to the condition it was in a few years ago.
It’s a hilly course, and the main drawback is that it’s fairly short at par 67. That does mean you can get around quickly, though, and there are some great holes, especially 4, 8 and 18. Right now the course is in amazing condition, and it’s always fun to play. Lovely staff, too. It has a country course feel despite being so close to the city. I highly recommend a visit.
The course conditions weren’t great, and the booking arrangements were a mess. We booked the stay and golf directly by phone, but no carts had been booked when we arrived to play. It took nearly 2 hours to get into the unit because the person who was meant to be working apparently decided to go to the pub instead. The phone number was no help either, nobody answered. We only got in because other people facing the same ridiculous dramas helped us out. The pro shop guy seemed not to care and only complained about having to help. This golf course has no idea what stay and play means. Clowns. Give this one a miss.
The location is beautiful, and it’s usually easy to get a booking. Staff and members are friendly. The greens are often immaculate, though they need some love right now. There’s been a drought and a change of ownership. For a lower par course, it’s difficult, and even good shots can struggle to stay on most fairways. The cart paths need work, too. If you haven’t played here before, bring extra balls, don’t chase every one of them, and just enjoy the course.
