Kangaroo Island Coastal Villas

Coastal villas was unfortunately one of the disappointing parts of our trip. Kangaroo Island itself is beautiful, with amazing wildlife and some great experiences, but the room needed a proper clean and could use updates to make it more comfortable. The shower water barely trickled out. I’m not sure whether the pressure can be fixed, but it really needs attention if so.

For the price, it was quite good. The place was nice, though a few small things would help, like more supplies for cleaning the kitchen, some extra towels and hand towels, and maybe a box of tissues. The hot water was tricky to keep at a steady temperature because the cold water runs on a pressure pump.

Kylie and Brian, the managers, are friendly and know plenty about American River and nearby things to visit. They’ll try to help if you need anything. The cottages are tidy and clean, with two bedrooms, a queen bed and bunk beds. You’re close to the water and jetty for fishing, walking or kayaking, and there’s a cafe, somewhere to get oysters, and The Shed nearby. Inside, there’s a toaster, kettle, microwave that bakes, Sunbeam baking pan, pots, crockery, utensils, and heating and air conditioning. There’s also a washing machine, but you pay for the powder. A post office and mini market are nearby, with a supermarket in Kingscote. Groceries may cost more on the island, so it’s probably best to shop at the supermarket before you arrive. I stayed quite a while and loved the solitude and watching birds right outside the door. I fed them crumbs to get some good photos. It’s tank water, so showers need to be short, especially in peak season. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and August is a good month to visit too.

Check-in was very stressful. I’d said when booking that I expected to arrive at 7 PM, but nobody was there when I got there at 6:30. I tried four phone numbers and sent texts and voicemails, but heard nothing for an hour and a half. In the end I booked another hotel for that night and stayed there. They didn’t charge me for the first night, so I’m giving an extra star for that. The place itself was a bit dirty and not very comfortable, and there was no Wi-Fi.
