We had a fabulous lunch at The Australian Hotel, or The Aussie. It was busy and cheerful, and Nanette was amazing serving us. She was the only front-of-house staff member under pressure, yet stayed cool, cheery, attentive and friendly. Well done to her and all the kitchen staff. We’ll be back 🙏

The food was beautiful, and the chicken burger was the best I’ve eaten. Emmi and the rest of the staff were amazing, and the young woman with long brown hair was especially welcoming. We were so glad we came across this lovely hotel. If you’re passing through Ballina, it’s a must visit!

Love the Aussie. Jazzy always puts on my favourite songs, and happy hour is great: every day from 4 to 6, $10 Margie’s, including the 1800 coconut and Cointreau. There’s also the members draw plus meet trays every Friday.

The pie took a little while to come out, as I expected, but the taste and quality made the wait worthwhile. The meat had a lovely consistency, with mash potatoes, gravy and peas on the side. You can get some high-quality cutlery to scoop the sides into the pie, which has top-tier pastry. It was a great-tasting meal for a reasonable $20, whether drunk or sober. The service was exceptional, and I think this bar has the best atmosphere in Ballina. Highly recommend.

Free pool on Mondays and great value for money. This is the best pub in town, even better than the new Shawsy, with good beer, food, music and a great vibe. Jazz is the best too, and always holds my skateboard while I get drunk. This is the place to go in Ballina!
