Edgewater Gardens

The management were fantastic, and the apartment had lots of little extras for a self-contained stay, including tea, coffee, and toiletries. Our two-bedroom place was roomy enough for five, just a 10-second walk from a beautiful beach and close to amenities. The pool was lovely, and there was a sheltered BBQ area. Everything was immaculately presented and definitely COVID cleaned, with only the sound of the ocean to hear. Absolute paradise, would highly recommend.

Sharon and Terry do a wonderful job keeping the place running well. It’s ideally located for a family holiday, close to Batemans Bay and several beaches. Our room had ocean views, and hearing the waves morning and evening was so soothing.

The pool and grounds were clean and well kept, and there’s a nice BBQ area. The motel is right across from the water, and waking to the waves was lovely, but the rest of our stay was frustrating. The front door rattled in the wind, so we had to wedge a chair against it. A sign told us not to invite friends or family over while staying there, which felt negative and put us off returning. We’ve stayed in hundreds of motels around the world, and this was the first time we stayed more than one night without being offered fresh towels or a made bed. My wife had to ask for towels, and there weren’t any toiletries, not even a small bar of soap. The shower had a notice saying the hot water system holds 60 litres and takes half an hour to reheat. My 8-year-old daughter took a shower long enough to wash her hair, then the water ran out while my wife was showering. We waited half an hour to finish, which made us late for an appointment, and the water was so cool my wife didn’t even need to turn on the cold tap. The crockery in the cupboard was wet when we went to make breakfast, yuck. The owner snubbed my wife when she said good morning, which seemed rude. The sign said no vacancy, but only four rooms looked occupied. The place was for sale, and I got the impression the owners were tired of it, which isn’t good for business.

The view is great, the owners are nice, and the beach is right across the road. The town and shops are only a few minutes away by car. The road between the hotel and beach makes it a bit noisy, and there’s no dishwasher. When I stayed, it was over $300 a night, which felt expensive for what you get. At a cheaper rate, it would definitely be worth staying.
