The George Hotel

The bathroom was filthy, with a dirty toilet and basin I had to clean myself. The sheets and pillows looked unchanged and had brown dirt on them. We spent two nights in 40-degree heat with a weak portable air conditioner whose pipe was held on with duct tape. It felt like we were slowly roasting. Do not stay here. I wouldn't recommend it.

We went for a special occasion dinner, but the basics were missed. The food had no seasoning and tasted bland. The twice-cooked pork belly had no crackling, which is the whole point, and the chicken schnitzel tasted really funky and came without any sauce or gravy. Sorry, we won't be back.

The bed was comfortable, which is the only reason this gets one star. I paid $129 for sticky mugs with coffee rings, a dusty tea and coffee tray, a power board that sparked, and a broken bathroom cabinet with a drawer missing. There was soap scum on the tiles, a ring in the bath, and the sink wouldn't drain. The bald gentleman in blue wasn't welcoming at all. After reading other reviews, I assume it was because I was wearing an Aboriginal flag t-shirt and had a summer tan. Never again.

The drinks were overpriced, and the food was disappointing. Both lemon pepper schnitzels arrived pink, with one raw in the middle. I told the manager, who said “it’s cooked” before even looking at the chicken, then took both plates back to the kitchen. The replacements were a little more cooked but still pink. It seemed like very cheap chicken was being used, and it definitely wasn't chicken breast. There was no flavour either.
