There’s a nice deck outside overlooking the Tamar, where you can eat or have a drink, and the dining room also looks out over the water. Across from the Maratime College, you can see Bell Bay, boats in the marina next door, and sometimes seals swimming out front. I usually go on Thursday nights for the steak specials. The prices are really competitive, the meals I’ve had have been good value, and there’s a bar for an ale or two with your food. Parking is limited, so get there early. I’m sure I’ll be back. It’s a pleasant place for dinner around Beauty Point and Tasmania.

The building looks a bit tired from outside, but the room was a nice surprise, very neat and clean. The lounge showed some wear but was comfortable, and the bathroom has been renovated with a good-sized shower. Reception took a little finding, though it’s in the tavern.

We’d had the food before, so this time we drove the hour from Devonport for lunch and dinner, and to have our first quiet night away together. Both meals were exceptional, and the room was great value. It had a comfortable queen-sized bed, a newly renovated bathroom, and a waterfront view, with the bistro easy to access. The staff were outstanding. Julie even went home to get an extension cord for my CPAP machine, and nothing seemed too much trouble. This hidden gem in a part of paradise is definitely on our list to revisit. Can’t wait.

We were travelling with a yacht rally and stopped at the Tamar Yacht Club next to the Waterfront Hotel. Over the week, the Waterfront staff handled both our large group bookings and smaller dinner bookings so well. The pub meals were fabulous, especially the tender steak and seafood, and the staff were friendly and the service excellent.

The steak itself tasted good, but it came medium well instead of medium rare. The vegetables seemed to have been cooked days earlier and weren’t properly reheated, so they were almost inedible. The pan-fried barra was frozen, overcooked, and completely inedible, and was even served upside down. Worst dining experience I’ve had in years. Don’t eat here.
