The Cook Cottage

We expected less and were pleasantly surprised. The one-bedroom cottage was comfortable and had absolutely everything supplied. Our host was polite and courteous, and nothing seemed like a bother. We’ll definitely stay again and would recommend it.

The cottage was spotless, and we didn’t have that feeling of needing to disinfect things before touching them, as we’ve had in other places. It’s excellent value too, we’ve paid more and received less. The only thing that kept us from giving it five stars was the vinyl flooring, presumably chosen because it’s easier to maintain and avoids stains that would mean extra work and cost. We arrived late in the evening, and Julia & Victor had turned on the heater to give us a warm welcome. The cottage feels like a home away from home, with all the furniture you need. The kitchen is set up for a short stay and even has a coffee pod maker with some pods supplied. Soaps, detergents, shampoo, conditioner, a hair dryer, and plenty more are provided. There’s no bath, but the bathroom is adequate. The bedroom is 4.5 Star, with a quality, super comfortable bed and bedside tables. There’s also a separate heater at the foot of the bed for cold Canberra nights. I can’t recommend the cottage highly enough.

You get your own driveway, so there’s no need for on-street parking, which is a real winner. The cottage sits tucked at the back of the garden, with a verandah looking out on green trees and shrubs. It’s comfortable, cosy and quiet, a proper retreat. Julia and Victor were great hosts. They left us to ourselves, but we knew they’d be there if needed. Thanks!

Roomy, comfortable and well stocked, this private cottage in Canberra’s suburb of Cook was a great alternative to a hotel. A great place to stay while visiting Canberra.
