The Berry View

We had a wonderful stay, with gorgeous rooms, great pool facilities, and so much care in the details. The staff were incredibly kind and made a special effort for the birthday. We’ll be back and will tell our friends. Thanks for having us!

We were in Berry for a friend’s wedding and really enjoyed our stay at the Berry View. Susan and Peter were very helpful, and the renovated rooms and facilities were fantastic. It’s also an easy seven-minute walk into town. We’ll be back soon.

We paid $533 for two nights, and a midweek visit may be cheaper since rates rise on more popular nights. Before booking, check that places you want to eat, such as SOUTH on albany, are open. Guests get a two-for-one voucher for The Berry Hotel, though if you want something besides a burger or schnitty there, signing up for Feros Rewards the day before is a better bet. Look for the pink signs for the strawberry farm, a short walk or drive up the slip road and under the bypass. There’s an honesty box and a fridge of bright red berries, lovely to eat beside the aquamarine pool. The original motel has been beautifully updated while keeping its 1950s character, including the flat roofs and concrete breeze blocks, now crisp white with burnt orange doors. The rooms use warmer brown tones. There’s also a new 18-room block, but I’d choose original room 14 for its wrap-around sunset views. Press a button and the electric blinds open onto the infinity-edge pool below, with burnt orange daybeds, striped umbrellas and matching lifesavers, plus the green pastures beyond. It feels pretty fancy, especially with the deep bath for two facing the countryside. Berry has felt slower since the bypass. Queen Street is safe to cross and parking isn’t a battle. The Berry View is close enough to everything that we left the car parked for the whole weekend.

The executive suite was spacious and stylish, with a fun retro look, and the bathtub was a highlight for me. There was a good range of quality hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and reception was friendly. It’s only a short walk to the main strip. I would have been more comfortable with better pillows and a comfier bed, and disposable slippers to go with the bathrobe would have been nice. Bottled water in the fridge would also be useful. Still, I had a very positive stay and liked the motel-hotel feel.
