Bicheno East Coast Holiday Park

The cabin was cheap and in a great central spot, close to the main street and beach. It had a double bed, four bunks, a fridge freezer, a decent oven and cooktop, a small TV, and its own bathroom and shower. Six people could fit, though it felt cramped. It could have been cleaner: sweeping at night showed that under the sofa hadn't been done in ages, and there were ants in the kettle. There are both cabins and sites available.

We got cabin number 3, and it was dated and less clean than we'd hoped. The sofa had mystery stains, and when I checked under the cushions, I found a spider and a big clump of someone else's hair, so we covered it with spare bedding. The beds were clean, but the bunks had warped mattresses with no springs that made you roll into the middle. The other single beds were thin foam, so anyone with a decent bit of weight would be on the wood. The bathroom was clean and the shower pressure was really good, but the extractor fan didn't work, the cracked shower tray seemed to let water into the wood and cause a damp smell, and the door wouldn't lock. It was lucky the day wasn't hot because the main room only had one old AC unit. Maybe the other cabins are nicer, but this one wasn't. The website photos clearly showed one of the nice newer cabins.

The camp kitchen and relaxation area are great, and the park is well equipped. When I needed a little extra support, the staff were very helpful. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're in Bicheno.

The showers were the highlight: spotless, roomy, hot, and with great pressure. We paid $50 for one night with our motorhome and four adults, which was a great price. The beach is a block away, and there are nice coffee shops nearby. A great place to stay.
