Amelia Boutique Hotel

We paid $234 for one night, and as uni students we’d picked this place after looking for cheaper options. It sounded all right, but the stay ruined our romantic weekend and felt like a total waste of money. The lobby and reception stank of cigarettes. Guests in one room had their door open while actively using drugs, including injecting. Our room was musty and had a smell I can’t even describe. We tried to find somewhere else, but other hotels were $350-400+, so we put up with it. When we left, our bags were infested with cockroaches. Absolutely disgusting. Do NOT book here.

We stayed one night for an event. The location was great, the staff lovely and the place clean. The old building carries every voice and door noise, though, and the cleaners started loudly before everyone had left at the 20am checkout. Guests could do with a reminder to be respectful of other people and keep the noise down. Otherwise, a good stay.

The room was dirty, there was blood on the sheets, the hallway smelled strange, and the place was completely overpriced. I overslept checkout by half an hour and was fine with paying the late checkout fee when they called. While I was getting ready to leave, just before 11, the male owner came to my door and said rudely that we had to leave or he’d open it. I told him three times I’d just come out of the shower, but he still opened the door and yelled at me while I wasn’t dressed. Female staff were on duty, but the male owner chose to barge into my room. I felt completely violated. I reported the entry to my room to the police and will take the matter further. I wouldn’t feel safe recommending this place to any woman. Please stay away.

My son and his girlfriend booked a room ahead of time, then the hotel cancelled a couple of weeks before their stay because it was renovating. That part is fair enough. What’s awful is that they wouldn’t refund the money or offer credit for a future visit. They’re ripping people off and should be ashamed. This should be a crime. Don’t trust this place.
