Belise Apartments

For the first two nights, things seemed fine. The apartment wasn’t amazing, but we accepted that and were ready to make do. From the third night on, though, we had serious problems. A strong mould smell came from the bathroom, and both the shower and sink flooded, leaving water pooled on the floor. The smell made it hard to stay in the apartment, and the repeated flooding felt unsanitary. I’d just had surgery before the stay, so the mould and ongoing flooding were especially concerning for my recovery. Instead of being able to rest and heal, the conditions affected my health, and my husband and I both felt unwell. This happened in the evening, when no staff were onsite. We told management as soon as we could, but instead of acknowledging the health and safety concern, they blamed us for not reporting it earlier, even though no one was there to help at the time. We were also refused extra towels and toilet paper, even though we’d used our own towels to clean up the shower and sink water. That’s completely unacceptable when we paid $800 for 4 nights. I’ve stayed in backpacker accommodation that was cleaner and better maintained. Management wouldn’t take responsibility for the maintenance and hygiene problems or provide a refund. Because it was after hours, we couldn’t reach a reasonable solution. Were they expecting me to sleep in my car? The lack of cleanliness, poor service and refusal to take responsibility made this a deeply disappointing stay. I wouldn’t recommend Belise Apartments to ANYONE.
