Riverside Hotel Southbank

The city location is convenient, but that’s about the only good thing I can say. At $460 for two nights, the room was worse than university accommodation: dents in the walls, mould in the shower, leaking broken shower heads, sagging beds, a miscellaneous stain on the sheets, and even bloodstains on the curtains. The balcony door was already unlocked when we arrived, and being on the first floor made it easily accessible from the road. We also had to take our own rubbish out or face a minimum $30 fee. For a 4 star hotel, that’s ridiculous. We’d just come from Meriton Suites on the Gold Coast, where we paid over $100 less for two nights and had clean rooms, wonderful staff and professional service. I’d suggest Rydges up the road or Meriton across the bridge, which has better views, a similar location and staff who respect their guests and workplace. At 7pm, the concierge acted as if our arrival to check in was an inconvenience. When we raised the sheet stain, reception said housekeeping and hotel management would fix it straight away. Nearly six hours later, the beds had been made, but the stain was still there. Reception only seemed interested in resolving it after being caught out. That’s lazy, not customer service. The response about the shower heads was a massive cop out, too. Those two problems say plenty about the place and its attitude to guests. After concierge palmed us off, kitchen staff helped with the bloodstained sheets. Shout out to Michelle from the kitchens for sorting clean sheets before her shift started, even though it wasn’t her area, when housekeeping and concierge wouldn’t help. She gave 5 star service. We were told a manager would call the next day, but neither of us ever heard from them. I’d considered raising the service rating to two or maybe three stars, depending on how management handled the room and the kitchen staff’s help. The lack of care changed my mind. If I could give zero stars, I would.

The location was convenient for our guests, and we felt secure throughout the day. We held our baby shower at Riverside Hotel Southbank on April 4, and the conference room was clean, spacious and set up well for the celebration. Staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating, so everything went smoothly and without stress. The service and facilities were worth the price. The rooms were clean, and the location worked well for events around Sth Bank and the city. But the place feels old and dated and needs renovation. The bed felt like concrete, and rubbish trucks woke me very early. I hope the renovations go well.

Our function at Riverside Hotel ran smoothly from beginning to end, thanks in large part to the team. Ariel kept checking in throughout the event, made sure our requests were handled and paid close attention to the details. Avito was just as helpful and accommodating, always ready to assist with a positive, professional attitude. Their efforts meant we could enjoy the event without stress. We really appreciate the service and would happily recommend Riverside Hotel for a special occasion.
