Somewhere To Stay Backpackers

I’m on night two of a five-night stay. My trip got longer than expected because of Black Friday sales, so I ended up picking this hostel. It’s a nice environment, and the staff and guests I’ve spoken with have been very polite. The rooms can get really stuffy in Brisbane’s heat, as they only have pedestal fans. I’m used to warmer hostel rooms, so it hasn’t been too much of an issue for me, though it can feel uncomfortable sometimes. Reception sells soft drinks, energy drinks, juices, snacks, toiletries and a few other basics at good prices, which saves a trip out for something to eat or drink. They run a few events each week, including a BBQ, paint n sip and movie night. My schedule won’t let me join, though I definitely would have if I could. There are plenty of bathrooms and showers, as well as other entertainment facilities on site. Reception is also happy to suggest things to do in Brisbane.

The fluffy blanket was the only good thing, and even getting one depends on luck. There were cockroaches in the rooms and the staff were extremely unpleasant. This was the worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. I once stayed in India for €1.50 a night and had warm service and excellent comfort, with no cockroaches.

I had a very upsetting stay here recently. I left a gold chain in my luggage, a gift from my parents with a pendant from my grandfather, and it meant a great deal to me. When I came back, my bed area had been rearranged and the chain was gone. I can’t say exactly what happened, but it disappeared during my stay. I’m very disappointed, and I’d urge future guests to be careful with their belongings and keep valuables secured in lockers.

I disagree with the lower-rated reviews. This is a safe, clean and affordable hostel with incredible staff. Whenever I run into someone on staff, they’re busy keeping the place to a good standard. They work around the clock to help guests feel safe and have very reasonable boundaries that keep it a good place for travellers. There are cameras everywhere. For travellers who value safety, respect and hospitality, this is the best place. If you’re Australian, I suggest calling first, since this place is really set up for international travellers and that’s the foundation of its great vibe. There is a scent of herbs, as other reviews mention. They may be using marijuana for medical reasons, and it doesn’t spread through the whole place, so don’t stress about it. At least there aren’t people getting drunk and causing trouble, just a thought. Definitely come enjoy the vibe. If I return, I’d stay here again.
