Broken River Mountain Resort

Broken River Mountain Resort puts you right in the rainforest. We even spotted platypus and turtles 😊 The staff were super friendly and the food was great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone considering a stay in the area.

Those scones were the worst I've ever been served, and after waiting ages they arrived cold and dense, with barely a smear of jam and just a dollop of cream. We got an extremely frosty reception when we walked in, too. I get that casual visitors may not be wanted, but then parks shouldn't send people there. I was thinking about asking about a booking, but this experience put me off and cost them a potential sale. Still, I can't let those scones go.

The restaurant meals were great, and the best thing about this place was how close it is to the platypus viewing. We booked two nights to make sure we'd see them, and there were so many sightings in both the afternoon and morning that we left a day early. The rooms are really outdated and need a refresh. You can hear everything in the next rooms, so they can obviously hear you too, and the bed was uncomfortable. It was okay for one night, and worth it for the platypus.

We ended up staying four nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The location is fabulous, and you don't need to get up early to see platypus since they're around all day. The place was clean and friendly, perfect for our family. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook, the bathroom's hot water kept us warm, and the fireplace was so cosy, with fresh wood supplied daily. Loved our stay and will return.
