Grand Bundaberg Hostel

The fish itself was lovely, and the chips came in a generous serving. My beer-battered barra wasn't drained properly, though, so the chips ended up swimming in oil. The salad was mostly lettuce and red onion, with no tomato. Staff were all very friendly, and the food arrived without much of a wait.

We went twice in one week for work functions, hoping the revamped place would be good. The atmosphere and general feel were nice, but customer reviews seem mixed and our visits were hit and miss. My medium rare steak was well done and tough as leather. One meal was forgotten, and another plate had a shard of glass underneath. I gave it to the waiter, but it got lost somewhere between the table and kitchen. On the second visit I ordered fish and chips, and the fish was mushy slop. I hope they find their feet soon.

Over an hour passed before the entrees arrived, and only two of the three came out. Our mains showed up before the last entree. The wings came without sauce, then with the wrong sauce again. The garlic bread was almost stale, the only pasta on the menu was bland and tasted like flour, and I found a hair in the mushroom gravy. The kids' pizza wasn't worth $10. I understand meals can take a while when it's busy, but waiting over an hour for entrees is unacceptable. We won't be back.

We were glad to stumble across this hotel after Googling places to eat in Bundaberg and finding most were shut on a Sunday night. The salmon with cauliflower puree was one of the best I've had. The music and friendly wait staff were great too.
