The valley views were the best part, especially from the wraparound verandah through the big sliding doors. Cabin 15 is a two-bedroom, self-contained apartment set a little apart from the others, so it felt private. The place next door was empty during our stay, which added to that feeling. It was clean and roomy, with comfortable beds, plenty of towels for each guest and a top-loading washing machine that made a longer stay easy. It’s a little dated, but that suited Norfolk Island. The location works well if you want to be out of town. Kingston and Emily Bay are an easy walk down, though the hill back up was a workout and I didn’t quite manage it! On our second day we emailed to ask for a bedside lamp and a bit more soap. We got a quick, helpful reply and everything was sorted straight away. We also got into the locals’ friendly wave, with that little twist of the hand. And the drinking water was incredible, no chlorine, just pure liquid gold.

We really enjoyed how quiet it was, and the large comfortable bed meant we slept well. The views from this peaceful spot are spectacular, and the wifi worked reliably. The kitchen and bathroom are original but in excellent shape, so please leave them as they are. The carpet is a little tired.

The apartments work well for self-catering, and there are nice views across a pine-tree valley. The smell of smoke kept drifting through, though, like rubbish being burned, and it really spoiled the atmosphere. The hot water was only lukewarm for a few days too. Without those problems, I’d have rated the place five stars.

My husband and I stayed in August 2024 and loved the apartment. It was spacious and very clean, with a well-equipped kitchen, a lovely bedroom, bathroom and living room. We also enjoyed the beautiful gardens and the views down towards the Kingston area. The staff at Governors Lodge were very helpful, and we went on heaps of tours from there. We thoroughly recommend Norfolk Island and Crest Apartments.

It’s incredibly quiet and well located, and the apartments are clean and spacious, though old. When we asked for coffee mugs, Mary-Lou quickly arranged four for our room. Governors Lodge is nearby, with a great coffee shop and cafe. We took several bus tours from there, and all the staff were very pleasant.
