The cabin was a great surprise, clean, comfortable, and already cool when I arrived. I slept really well, and cooked dinner on the barbecue out front. The staff took good care of me, and the ladies in the office made sorting out the stay easy. The night before, I camped in a tent and used the camp kitchen, which has a big oven, gas cooktop, fridge and TV, with the pool and river view right there. There’s another pool down by the cabins too. I got to enjoy both kinds of stay at Discovery Caravan Park. Thanks to everyone at discovery Park Mildura.

The location still deserves five stars, and the facilities are what I expected. We’d visited before the floods and came back just after New Year. The two pools vary: the newer one near the units gets 4.5 stars, while the main pool gets 3.5. The lawns and grounds have slipped compared with how the previous owners kept them, maybe because there isn’t enough funding. That’s not the groundskeeper’s fault. I’d give the grounds 3.5 stars. Water access is very limited now, with reeds grown over much of it. A large tree had been blocking the lagoon for a while and should have been cleared, so one star for that. Near the entrance, two families left their gear and boats across the small beach for over a week. Management knew, but didn’t move them so others could use the spot. Some people ended up sitting in the car park to get near the water. Families by the units had also claimed the banks and access there. Two stars for the beach situation, three for water access. Signs asking people to keep equipment at least 10 metres back could help everyone share the riverfront. Treated pine bollards and paths might help too, and gazebos shouldn’t be left set up overnight. Some stayed at the water’s edge all week. There’s a lot of potential here, so hopefully things improve. Discovery Parks is a business, not a family. I’d rate the park four stars overall.

Mildura is lovely, though the 45-degree heat during our visit cut down on how much we could explore. We’ll be back, and we’d happily stay at this caravan park again. It’s in a lovely spot by the river, with two pools as a bonus, a beautiful camp kitchen, and a helpful caretaker.

We had a superior cabin, and it was modern and spotless. The shower was amazing, and there were plenty of clean barbecues to use. Both pools looked well cared for. Check-in was simple, the staff were friendly, and the park and amenities were immaculate, including an easy-to-use, clean laundry. It’s quiet and well located. I’d stay again, and choose a river view cabin next time. ☺️

The loud cars doing laps along the Murray were the downside. They went on Wednesday from 6pm to 1.45am, Thursday from 7pm to 2am, and Friday from 4pm until after 4am. Apparently it’s a regular nightly thing. This is outside the park’s control, but if you want a riverfront spot, it’s useful to know. We may be more sensitive to night noise because we come from a very quiet rural town. We loved our three nights at riverside site 87, a top spot. The park was tidy, with wide internal roads that made it easy to get to the sites. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Both pools looked inviting, the bathrooms were clean and maintained, and the camp kitchen was very clean and well equipped. The laundry takes credit cards only. The washers were good, and the dryer cost $5 for 32 minutes. There’s only a small washing line by the building, with just some morning sun, though there’s plenty of space behind the laundry for more lines. That could help when smoke from a heavy smoker camped beside the building drifted into the bathroom, laundry and washing line. People using those facilities were commenting to one another. Maybe Discovery could make the sites closer to the laundry smoke-free.
