Devon Long Barn

We loved the thoughtful details throughout Devon Cottage and the welcoming feel of the place. The gardens were a joy, and sitting by the fire with my partner, just enjoying each other's company without a care, made for a perfect weekend away. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place with the world.

It felt like a home away from home, and we really didn't want to leave. The heritage gardens and quiet were lovely, but Margaret's attention to detail and the cosy feel made our stay especially memorable.

The cottage itself was lovely, but our experience with the lady owner changed how we felt about it. Shortly after our stay, she called aggressively to ask whether we'd flooded the spa bath, then left us a negative one-star review for how we had treated the property. My partner and I had gone out of our way to leave it in perfect condition. We had wiped up any water that might have splashed from the bath or shower, whose door doesn't close properly. I still apologised and asked if anything was damaged or showed mistreatment. She said the toilet roll, kept on the bathroom floor near the spa bath and shower, was wet, so we must have been careless. It's a shame to see a host of such a beautiful property show so little respect for customers. After reading other reviews, it seems others have enjoyed the property but been shocked by the host's rudeness too. We went from recommending it to friends right after our visit to warning people away. I've never left a negative review on a review site before, but felt compelled to this time by the complete lack of decency and politeness. As another reviewer put it on TripAdvisor, the host's attitude is basically, ‘we will take your money but that is all we care about’. Do not stay at Devon Cottage or any properties owned by Southdown Cottages. We didn't interact with the gentleman owner, but the lady owner was the rudest owner we've come across in over 100 stays.

The grounds and gardens are lovely, with lots of space and a peaceful, serene feel. Devon cottage has all the essentials you'd want for one night or a longer stay.
