Drifter is the best hostel I’ve stayed at along the East Coast. The beds are really comfortable, and the rooms are clean and roomy. Staff made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. We joined the free Wednesday cook up, had delicious tacos, and got to know other hostel guests. The location’s perfect, and I’m looking forward to the free beachfront yoga today.

For the price, it’s only alright, especially since it costs a bit more than other hostels nearby. Our room was sandy and kind of dirty. The bunks and the space under the lockers were dusty, so it didn’t seem to get a thorough clean. Still, guests can be messy too, so that part isn’t all on the hostel. I liked having a curtain on each bed for privacy, plus a private bathroom. And Michaela deserves a shoutout. She was handling a ton of lost and found questions one after another by herself, but stayed really friendly and kind. Drifter wasn’t a bad experience.

The location was great, close to everything. My room was cozy and nicely decorated, though I noticed marks on the shower and bath taps and a few hairs on the bed. I booked through Egencia for a work trip and really just needed a clean bed and somewhere to sleep. The hotel feels more like a hostel, with lots of students. The corridor got a bit noisy at night, and doors kept closing.

The atmosphere and cleanliness here are immaculate. The staff are amazing, and the events are great, with more going on than just drinking socials. The run club and burger cook up were unreal. Best hostel on the east coast, honestly, I can’t recommend it enough.

Drifter Byron Bay had such a welcoming, relaxed social atmosphere. The activities made it easy to meet people, and the BBQ night we joined was a highlight. It was well organized, the mood was great, and we made some lovely friends from around the world. It felt like a little community. The place was clean and well organized, with comfortable common areas and a nice feel to them. The heated pool was a great extra, always warm and perfect for unwinding after a long day. I’d happily stay again, and recommend it to anyone visiting Byron Bay who wants somewhere friendly and comfortable with plenty going on.
