Adobe Motel

I booked a ground-floor room for a day surgery visit in Cairns, and the staff were friendly both when I booked and when I arrived. The room was clean, but it was very noisy, with kids, loud music and restaurant sounds coming through beside Room 1. The TV picture was much too bright, and changing the settings didn't help, so I used my iPad instead. The bed was lumpy and the pillows were hard; they probably need replacing, though other rooms might be better. I managed to sleep because I was exhausted. The shower floor felt too slippery for me to use safely, so I washed with a sponge on the bathmat. I wouldn't return. For $89 a night I could get a more comfortable room.

The restaurant was wonderful, and the food and staff were excellent. The accommodation, though, was outdated and gross, absolutely not like the online photos. The woman greeted us over the balcony with a cigarette in hand. I wondered if she'd forgotten we were coming or hadn't got the rooms ready. It seemed like permanent residents were occupying the back of the driveway. There weren't any rooms available matching what we'd booked, so we had to choose from the last two. Our bed had no blanket. The shower head was broken and leaking, and the tap was hard to turn. The TV remote was grimy, the mirror had grubby marks, the fan looked as if it might fall from the ceiling, and the pillows need replacing. I've stayed in plenty of places, but this was the worst experience.

I was there for a month for work, and they cleaned my room just once, after 12 days, and only because I asked. They won't service the rooms. I had to go ask for clean towels several times and ended up buying my own toilet paper. Other workers staying there hadn't had their rooms cleaned at all. Disgusting, I've never seen anything like it. Jail would've been cleaner. Don't stay at Adobe unless you're stuck.

There wasn't anyone at reception, and no one checked my ID or booking when I arrived. The room had no bin, cutlery or hair dryer, and the TV remote had no batteries. The TV reception was so poor we couldn't watch it. There was rubbish in the fridge, no pillow on the single bed, and one blanket had no cover. Pretty subpar. Wouldn't recommend.
