Mad Monkey Backpackers Village

The rooms are pretty basic, without curtains or lockers, but I still felt fairly safe. The bathrooms were good and the shower pressure was good too. Reception staff were really nice and helpful, and I liked the TV room. I haven’t tried the other facilities yet, though they look fine. No major complaints. I’ve stayed in better places and a lot worse ones. The little things keeping this from a five would probably cost quite a bit to change, so I can’t blame them. A solid 4/5.

The place had a friendly feel, with helpful staff and welcoming people. My room was clean, and the location was very convenient. I’d definitely stay here again. And a big shoutout to Wik, she’s absolutely lovely.

The bathroom was clean and fine, and the bed sheets were really nice. The beds weren’t uncomfortable, but our room smelled damp and it was hard to get a proper night’s sleep. We know it’s a party hostel, but basic social norms should still apply. Check-in was far too long and complicated, and the app was confusing and didn’t always work. The kitchen was chaotic and too small for the number of people, with pigeons around too. It felt dangerous at that point. Half the stoves didn’t work, so people had to compete for the ones that did. They could use another fridge. There were no lockers in the room, and the top bunks were hard to get into. At least it wasn’t too expensive, but still.

Mad Monkey Village was a great place to stay. The common areas and pool make it easy to hang out and meet people, and the rooms are clean with genuinely comfortable beds. The staff are very welcoming. It has a fun, social atmosphere while still feeling relaxed. A perfect spot in Cairns, I’d absolutely recommend it and stay again.
