I wouldn't recommend this place. It isn't luxury, and it feels old and outdated. The shopping centre is close, but the hotel is far from the esplanade, the main group of restaurants and a Woolies. The roof repairs were necessary, I understand, but the manager let the workmen work outside normal hours, starting at 6 am and some evenings carrying on after dark, even on Sunday. After four days I put the room-service sign on my door, but the room still wasn't serviced by the end of the day. I was out of toilet paper and had no clean towel. When I called, I was told it was too late to deliver supplies, so I had to buy toilet paper across at the shopping centre. With so many great hotels in central Cairns offering good reception and facilities, why stay here?

The room had a full kitchen, laundry, balcony and bathroom, plus excellent underfloor parking, making it practical and self-sufficient for a longer stay. It's conveniently close to Cairns Central Shopping mall for essentials and easy access to Cairns cbd. The rooms have clearly aged since they were probably considered 'luxury', and there were a couple of minor drawbacks: no elevator and no waterfront views. None of that spoiled my stay, though. I enjoyed my time at Mid City Luxury Suites.

The location was handy, with Central Station nearby and a shopping center right across the way. But cockroaches kept showing up in the room every day, especially in the bathroom. Sometimes they were dead in the kitchen or inside cups, or crawling on the living room walls. I saw more than three a day on average. The shower was cramped, and the water pressure was very weak, which made it hard to use.

Stayed four nights and would come back. The room was big and clean despite some negative views, with a usable kitchen, all appliances, a good-sized bathroom, and both air conditioners working great. It also had a washer and dryer, and the beach was good. Five stars for a four-star hotel.

Handy for everything: across the road from Central and Myers, and within walking distance of the station. The apartment was clean and had what I needed for a pleasant stay, including a pool, washing machine, TV and balcony.
