Southern Cross Atrium Apartments

The location was handy, about five minutes' walk to Coles and the shopping centre, 15 minutes to the city centre and seven minutes to the central train station. It wasn't expensive, and the room was clean and fairly spacious, with a comfy bed, a pool, a view and parking, though the lot fills up around 5:30 pm. There are no lifts and the soundproofing could be better. I'd read that beforehand and asked for the top floor, so the stairs weren't a big deal for me. The apartments had everything, even a rice cooker, plus a hairdryer, iron and board, and air con. It would have been nice if staff smiled back once in a while. They weren't rude, though.

The apartments are just a two-minute walk from Cairns central shopping centre and the train station, and they have two pools. The clean rooms come with kitchenettes equipped for a short stay: stovetop, microwave, rice cooker, pots and pans, kettle and toaster. I'd stay again.

The three pools lit up blue at night, and I really enjoyed them. The room was spotless and well equipped, with very comfortable beds and a great shower. The location was convenient for the Kuranda railway and shopping centre.

The receptionists were friendly and responsive, and Scotty, the night manager, was very helpful. The location was okay, close to the shopping centre, and we were on the first floor, about a 15-minute walk from the Marina. We appreciated the fresh towels and bed linen. The day manager on duty on 17th September 2025 was unempathetic and inconsiderate. On a very rainy day, they wouldn't allow a late checkout for my 91-year-old mother, who could have rested in bed for 3-4 hours before we left for the airport. The receptionist on duty had to step in to resolve it. The shower also needs maintenance: it was almost impossible to get warm water, only cold or hot. During our seven-night stay, the mid-stay cleaning wasn't done properly. They changed the bed linen and put in a new bin liner, but didn't mop the floor.
