The Royal Hotel is your hub for all things Capertee, whether you are visiting the Capertee Valley (the 2nd largest Canyon in the World), or the Turon River, whether you are bushwalking, camping, birdwatching, fishing, or even gold panning, make the Royal Hotel your Central Point.
The last Pub/Hotel left on the Castlereagh Highway (Mudgee Road), the main road between Lithgow and Mudgee, the Royal Hotel has everything you need for your trip.
The Royal Hotel is rich with history, the first timber version of the hotel was built around 1840 but it tragically burnt down in the early 1894. The story goes that the ladies in the community were fed up with their men spending too much time at the pub, so they torched it!
The original timber building was replaced with a stone building in 1895 and it still stands proudly today. In 1880 the hotel became a railhead (where a railway line ends).

Friendly locals, good beer, and great food. Jordan, the owner, really welcomes you and seems to appreciate people stopping by and supporting him. Drop in and say hello while you’re driving through.

I liked this very cool historic hotel and bar, and the owner was really nice. The food in the restaurant was great, and the location is fantastic for getting to all kinds of nearby sites. The room was okay and very clean, with fresh paint, though the overhead lighting was terrible and some bedside tables would have been nice. The women’s bathroom was very nice and spiffy.

There’s covered seating where dogs are welcome, plus play equipment for the littlest ones to stretch their legs. On my latest visit, they catered well for my fussy-eating grandkids. Lovely food, friendly staff, and a great location too.

For a country town experience, this is a great place to stay. The kitchen is excellent, and the staff are great. I had one of the best steak sandwiches of my life here. Eat up!

There’s a huge beer garden with a playground for the kids, a distillery on site, and free camping out the back. The food’s great too, and they have awesome local beers on tap. I’ve visited a few times and will be back many more. An absolute top joint to visit, highly recommend!
