Warrego Motel

The rooms and bathrooms were a great size, and the restaurant out front looked lovely, though we didn’t get a chance to try it. My partner and I stopped here on our drive from Brisbane to Darwin, and the lady who answered the phone was really accommodating about our late check-in. Fantastic place.

The landscaped grounds were lovely, and off-street parking was convenient. I was travelling alone, but the spacious room could easily fit a family of five. I booked The Rocks for the first time at the last minute in Charleville, then arrived after hours. They made access simple with clear instructions for collecting the key. The nearby service station, open until 11 pm, was useful for picking up supplies. The shower stayed warm rather than getting properly hot, which was a minor drawback. Otherwise, it was comfortable and convenient, and I’ll be back.

Friends lent us some room deodoriser, which helped with the sewer-like Artesian water smell as long as we kept the bathroom door shut. This was the first place on our travels where the smell was that strong, and we had to air the room straight away. Doing that on a 34 degree day wasn’t pleasant. We arrived on Christmas Day, and a staff member came by despite being off that day. By then the smell had eased, and their reaction and specific searches suggested it’s common for the area. The stay itself was generally good, but two days was enough. The television’s lights blared at us while we were trying to sleep. The plastic plants by the pool looked tacky, and the weeds needed attention, which took away from what could have been a nice new hotel.

The food was amazing, the rooms were really comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Great service, great place!
