The Mount Roland views were stunning, and we saw plenty of wildlife: pademelons, Tasmanian hens, and a platypus by the reception pond. The cabin felt cozy and had what we needed. Laundry was free, though the dryer cost extra, and the gas barbecue worked well once we’d spent a while cleaning it because it wasn’t very clean when we arrived. We didn’t use the indoor pool. The space was quite cold, and we found the cover awkward to take off. The air conditioner was in the living room, so the bedroom took longer to warm up, though its little heater helped. John, the owner, was especially polite and helpful throughout. A peaceful, memorable place to enjoy Tasmania’s scenery and nature.

It felt remote and quiet, with no traffic noise, yet made a handy base for Cradle Mountain, Mole Creek Caves, Davenport, Jerusalem Cliffs, and Mt Rolland. Our baby was well catered for, with a cot and high chair ready. The family-run place has only about 6 or 8 cabins, so it feels cozy, and everything was working and well maintained. There’s a pool and laundry, a nearby “bread fridge,” ponds with lilies, an old mine to explore, a horse for carrot feeding, and cows to greet. John was a lovely host and told us about Tasmanian history. We even saw a platypus and its baby in the pond. The cabins sit on a sunny hillside close to dramatic Mt Rolland. Just incredible, and we got a sunrise photo.

We had enough space for our family of five, and the cabin’s kitchen was set up well for cooking our own meals. The indoor pool was a great bonus, and we enjoyed seeing the animals and talking with the friendly owner. The retreat is gorgeous, with paddocks and animals spread out below the mountain. We stayed three nights while visiting Cradle Mt and are glad we chose this place.

The kids had a great time in the pool and roaming around the grounds. It feels like the middle of nowhere, with the lovely Mt Rowland backdrop, but Cradle Mountain and Devonport are both close enough. The accommodation was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We’d happily stay again.

There’s plenty to look around at on the property, and the mountain view from our cabin windows was amazing. The owners were lovely, and the cabins were clean, comfortable, and relaxing. It’s a great base for Cradle Mountain and other bush walks and attractions. We’ll definitely stay again someday.
