Colac Mid City Motel

We’ve stayed three times now, and the service has been consistently friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with everything you need: tea, coffee, milk, biscuits, kettle, toaster, dishes, fridge, TV, heating and cooling, iron and hairdryer. The bed is amazing, and the split system worked beautifully when Colac was freezing. Some people might find the decor a bit dated and dark, but we can’t fault the cleanliness, comfort or service. We’ll be back and recommend it. One small suggestion: offer light or soy milk, or ask at check-in what people want, to avoid waste. We popped up to the local Woolies for light long-life milk.

We got great service, and the rooms were tidy and clean. The motel is right in the middle of town, an easy walk from the main road and its popular food spots.

The neighbour next door was partying late, with loud door slams and shouting that carried through. Aside from that, the location was great, close to everything in town. The building is a little dated, but the room was clean and the bed and pillows were really comfortable. The woman who greeted us was kind and friendly, and made us feel welcome straight away.

The location is the main draw here, more than the room or amenities. As a former motel housekeeper, I probably have higher cleanliness standards, and I didn’t find the room as clean as I’d like. The man at reception was lovely, quick to answer my Booking.com messages and very helpful when my partner called because we nearly had to cancel at the last minute. There were two extra chairs on the patio for guests, power points on both sides of the bed, and the air conditioning and spare blanket came in handy on cold nights and mornings. The motel book had activity suggestions and the Wi-Fi password, and the little lights above the headboard were useful. The bathroom drawers were deep with lots of room, though the bedroom drawers were shallow and there wasn’t much storage. Patios connect, so they aren’t private. The windows have blinds but no curtains, so I had to shut them all and turn on the light to change. They don’t latch or lock, leaving the fly screen as the only protection, though the patio sliding door does lock. The fridge was tiny, and the microwave only worked with one particular button that allowed a maximum of two minutes. The soap felt really gross to me, and the towels were starchy and scratchy. I have sensory issues, for context. I probably wouldn’t stay again unless they add curtains and storage, improve the soap and towels, and provide a bigger fridge.
