The room felt cozy and modern, with a telescope and a mini kitchen, though it was small overall. The shower space was especially cramped for an adult man. The drive in was unpleasant too: the road to this luxurious hotel is 4 km of gravel, which I’d expect on the way to a campsite. The hotel and dinner both seemed overpriced. I understand the high cost may be because it’s up in the mountain. The shabu shabu was expensive as well, though the food quality was fine. Refills of udon, or sake included with the dinner set, might make it more appealing to tourists. Trying it once is fine, but I wouldn’t need to go again.

The meals were a real surprise in this region. We weren’t expecting authentic Japanese food, and the quality impressed us. Breakfast and dinner were delicious with generous portions, especially the shabu shabu and teishoku. Our cabins were cosy and comfortable, with breathtaking views, and having a telescope in the room was a lovely extra. The beautifully kept grounds feature stunning sculptures, and we enjoyed seeing wallabies wander freely around the resort. It’s also a great location, just a short drive from the national park and marine farm. The staff were friendly and professional. David was attentive, personable, and always glad to help. We can’t wait to return.

The peace and the view were what I loved most, and I’d stay again. The cabin is in the middle of nowhere, but it’s clean and sensibly laid out. It’s also small, and the shower was fine. We tried the Hot Pot mainly for the experience. At $135 per person it was very expensive, but it was fun, with lots of fresh vegetables and delicious beef and prawns. Breakfast was fine too, continental with a choice of three cooked items, two of them Asian. I can see why there are negative reviews when the prices are top end for a small cabin. The menu is my main suggestion for improvement. We were the only people in the restaurant, so it felt lifeless. A limited Asian menu doesn’t seem right for this kind of resort, especially if you stay several nights. Keep those dishes as an option, but add things like steak and seafood.

The comfortable accommodation, mountain views, wallabies, and other wildlife were the only saving graces of our stay. The experience left a sour taste, and as a same sex couple we felt the restaurant wasn’t inclusive. It seemed attentive service was reserved for straight, wealthy couples or groups. I don’t usually write bad reviews, but I want to warn other couples. My partner and I were on a Tasmanian road trip, and this stay was meant to be a highlight. We paid $1636.91 for two nights with breakfast. Instead, the service felt patronising and almost nonexistent. When we went to the set dinner menu at $85 per head, we weren’t treated like the other couples and groups. We were mostly ignored and not served. After that, we skipped the paid breakfasts at the restaurant on both mornings and ate at a down to earth cafe in Coles Bay.

Absolutely sublime. We stayed in Hazards reach, where the views were amazing, the staff were friendly, the accommodation was very comfortable, and the meals were yum. The driveway is unsealed but fine to drive, and well worth it. Recommended.
