That weekend at the Collie club hotel finally gave us the real country pub meal and atmosphere we’d been looking for. We’d moved to WA from QLD and this was our first getaway in Collie. The Valentine’s dinner setting was just right, and the food was cooked perfectly. We’ll tell people we know how good it is, and we’ll come back next time we’re in town.

The food was delicious and fairly priced. People recommend the parmi, and the serving looks big enough to share around the family. I had the buffalo wings, which were great, but definitely spicy if you don’t like heat. The owner made us feel very welcome and checked we were looked after. I’ll absolutely go back, and it feels like a place that must hold plenty of old memories. There’s a relaxed outdoor seating area with lots of room to enjoy the summer afternoon breeze. You can get to the bar from there, where there’s music, plenty of drink choices, and friendly, efficient staff. Inside, Old School has a gorgeous staircase and architecture that made me think of an old Bogart film. The huge seating area has different spots to choose from, mixing stylish furniture with Chesterfield chairs and lounges. It could suit a work crew, your boss, prospective in-laws, or Mum and Nan. If I ever let someone marry me, I’d want photos here, especially on that staircase.

The owner was so friendly. They’d just run out of garlic bread when we tried to order some, so he offered us a bit from the delivery his group had just received. Lovely staff and great vibes!

We’d struggled to find decent accommodation around Collie, but friends pointed us here, and they were right. The renovated rooms are very clean, the price is affordable, and the new management and staff are brilliant and so friendly. The food was delicious, with enormous portions. I forgot to take a photo, but it’s definitely worth trying.

We’d booked a Sunday night meal, so why take the booking if there’d be no meals when we arrived? I’ve eaten at the Club a few times before and have always been happy with the food and service, which made this especially disappointing. It was for our granddaughter’s birthday, too.
