Jacana Apartments

Save your money and stay somewhere else. There was road noise, no after hours care, and the place was unclean. There were bed bugs too. Shaun, the manager, was the worst and most unprofessional person I’ve dealt with in hospitality. He was aggressive and accusatory, and never accepted fault in himself, the hotel, or the staff.

The river is beautiful, and the location was good, close enough to shops. There’s also a vending machine on site. The staff were accommodating, and I’d consider coming back. The rooms could be better for wheelchair users, since there are little lips at the doorways. I’d have appreciated an offer of a lift to my room when I arrived. I was wearing heels, carrying lots of luggage, and had been put in the furthest room.

The apartment was clean, functional, and well located for our convention facilities. We could hear a fair bit of traffic from the main road outside, but it didn’t interrupt our sleep. At check-in, the reception staff seemed a little unfriendly and uninterested. One of them didn’t even acknowledge my daughter and me when we walked into the office. We all have tough days, but it costs nothing to say hello. Later, our interactions with reception and the after hours facilities service were excellent.

At 9am, an hour before checkout, cleaning staff unlocked and opened the apartment door without knocking or announcing themselves. I had to stand in the doorway to stop them coming further in and seeing someone completely undressed. That alone means I probably won’t stay here again. The stay had been great otherwise, though a couple of things were disappointing. The apartment’s only television didn’t work: the remote batteries were mangled and dead, and the TV showed nothing but an error. I didn’t report it because I had no use for the television during my stay, but it still wasn’t good.
